11 "Faux Pas" Which Are Actually OK To Make With Your Toto Asia

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Toto believed that North America as a growth market for Washlet bidet seats and toilets, in contrast to its "base" markets of Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto recorded Toto words so that the next generation could understand the words. Many words were replaced with foreign words. For instance, dui, which is Bengali for verandah was being used.

Origins

The early history of Toto, which began in 1917, was a reflection of Japan's economic growth. In the beginning of its existence, the company manufactured products to meet the demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. It used the first tunnel kiln in the nation to produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered automation to allow production control, which allows for greater efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding internationally in the latter part of the 1980s to benefit from new markets and sales opportunities. It established the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other products of manufacturers to complement its own line of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy increased sales and increased the company's global market share.

In the 90s, Toto began to focus on research and development for water-related appliances. It also improved its distribution system to better serve customers and increase profit. The company also employed the approach of just-in-time in its supply chain management and sales program. This resulted in a higher degree of customer satisfaction.

Toto has continued to innovate with regard to toilet technology. Its most recent toilet, for example it has a strong tornado flush that is more environmentally friendly than traditional toilets. The company also makes use of recycled water in its production process and has a green procurement policy. In addition to toilets Toto manufactures faucets and bathtubs, as well as hand dryers that are more efficient in energy use than conventional models.

The first museum of the company opened in 2015 and features exhibits about Toto's iconic products and their evolution as well as its group companies (all that deal with ceramics) and the historical background of plumbing and products like bath units and, in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also has a bathroom that features the WASHLET toilet, as well as other toilet-related innovations.

Before the formation of Toto, members of the group performed sessions for many musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all performed on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also played on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name as evocative as Asia one would think that the group would be prog queens and kings - but it's actually a fairly straightforward rock band. The band started out as a group and recorded two albums - 1979's self titled debut, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though the group have a diverse musical background their biggest hit was achieved in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a massive blockbuster, but not without problems.  Full Statement  put Toto under pressure to deliver a hit single or they would drop the album. Toto was able to achieve this through the aid of the smash hit "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience in the music industry, as the band members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts prior the group. Their sonic signature has since become the standard for  pop music from the 1980s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.

The album opens up hard with songs like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write fantastic AOR songs that slowly sink into your head. The album also includes some slow, jazzier tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and the distorted AOR which could appear completely unnatural, but actually is very effective.

After Toto IV the band's fortunes began to decline. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career and the band had a variety of drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band continued with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It was not as well-liked as IV. The band managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the end of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live show in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a brand new studio album just a few months after and then embarked on a world tour support the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old tapes and demos for a new record featuring songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 and released as a double album titled Then & Now. It was the first album in the history of the band that did not include a single song with the word "A" in its title. It also included one previously not released track, "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth record, Old Is New was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that affected his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes along with the other original members of Asia - Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility of reforming the band. This lineup, minus Howe who was occupied with Yes at the time, was renamed Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured a special appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
